How to Fly a Horse

by Ron Potter February 1, 2017

Ron’s Short Review: Debunking the myth that creativity is somehow related to genius and comes to you in a flash. It doesn’t. Like anything else, it takes hard work, dedication and commitment. Ashton gives some great practical advice and stories.

The Law

by Ron Potter January 3, 2017

Ron’s Short Review: The Law was originally published in French in 1850 by Frederic Bastiat. It was written two years after the third French Revolution of 1848. Great study in what Bastia calls “Plunder” both illegal and legal. I believe his words can be applied to any form of artificial structure, be it government or corporations. Lots of lessons to be learned.

Designing Your Life

by Ron Potter December 30, 2016

Ron’s Short Review: My generation had “What color is your parachute?” This is a great book for today’s creative, entrepreneurial environment. Figuring out where you want to head along the way and designing your life to enhance your possibilities. I can easily recommend this book.

The Management Myth

by Ron Potter November 2, 2016

the-management-mythRon’s Short Review: Matthew clearly helps us see how all of the number based management principles are clearly rooted in the 20th-century industrial world and measuring what has already happened while the real principles that make a difference today include putting people first and thinking ahead, not looking back.

Life in Half a Second

by Ron Potter October 17, 2016

life-in-half-a-secondRon’s Short Review: While Matthew’s definition of success is clearly stuck in the materialistic world, his “five door” process can really help you focus and be successful at many levels.

Idiot Brain

by Ron Potter October 5, 2016

idiot-brainRon’s Short Review: Dean is probably the most humorist neuroscientist that you’ll meet or read. He has a great ability to make complex issues understandable and fun. His book really helps us understand why at times we do such crazy things driving by a supposedly rational brain. Good learning.

Presence

by Ron Potter August 2, 2016

Ron’s Short Review: This whole concept of presence is a powerful one. It relates to true humbleness, great listening, being who you are in all circumstances. Great leadership lessons.

Bo’s Lasting Lessons

by Ron Potter August 1, 2016

Ron’s Short Review: Yes, you will enjoy this more if you’re a Michigan fan but Bo Schembechler was a great coach and leader and his leadership lessons are timeless. Even if you’re green or scarlet I still think you’ll enjoy this one.

Break Free of the Drama Triangle

by Ron Potter July 2, 2016

Ron’s Short Review: This was the second book I read this month on the topic of the Drama Triangle. This one gives a little more understand of how we get into and out of the triangle where the other book gives a deeper description of each role. Except for their misunderstanding of Religion (man trying to reach God) vs Christianity (God reaching out to man), a common mistake, they give a pretty good path to help avoid the consequences.

The Drama Triangle

by Ron Potter July 1, 2016

Ron‘s Short Review: Old concept and old book but a great reminder of how people fall into the Drama Triangle (Persecutor, Rescuer, Victim). She gives good descriptions of each type which helps develop a framework to see the triangle as it plays out.

A Failure of Nerve

by Ron Potter June 1, 2016

Ron’s Short Review: Maybe the most profound book I’ve read in a long time. Goes a long way in explaining the cause of poor leadership and teamwork (as well as government, education and parenting). It will take me a while to unpack all that is contained in this book but it really gets at the core of many issues.

Teaming

by Ron Potter May 31, 2016

TeamingRon’s Short Review: Fantastic book that turns the noun “team” into the verb “teaming.”  Great concept.  Our corporations today need to be teaming on almost all fronts.  It’s more than building great static teams (still needed).  Teaming as an attitude is what creates the greater impact.
